Dog toys by WOLTERS without hazardous substances
Everybody who decides to welcome a dog into their home, is also responsible for making sure that the dog stays happy, occupied and fit. Long daily walks and lots of playtime are important for many dogs. Furthermore, time and activities together can improve and strengthen the bond between you and your dog. We have developed several different types of dog toys in order to satisfy their natural urge to play. One aspect that is particularly close to our heart is that we do not want to use hazardous substances for our toys. Therefore, we offer toys made from pure natural rubber as well as an increasing number of OEKO-Tex certified plush toys.
What do I need to know before buying a dog toy?
Before buying a dog toy, you need to consider which activities you want to use the toy for. Is it for playing outdoors, on the meadow, in the woods or in the water? Or are you looking for a toy to play with at home? Other important questions to ask are: How big should the toy be so the dog can comfortably carry it in his mouth? How is the workmanship? Are there sharp edges or corners which might injure the dog? What are the components used and might some of them be hazardous for your dog? If your dog is an eager biter or chewer, the toy needs to be very sturdy. If your dog likes playing in the water, toys should float and be visible in murky water.
Dog toys without sound
Many manufacturers of dog toys produce balls or plush toys which squeak in order to provide even more fun for the dog. However, we only offers toys that do not squeak or honk. Why? If a dog hunts a potential prey animal and this prey animal makes constant squeaking or wailing noises, even if it is just a toy, the dog believes that the prey animal has not yet been slain and will not leave the prey animal alone.
Noisy toys can also mess up the relationship with other dogs. For if two dogs meet and play and one dog accidentally bites or hurts the other, the second dog squeals or wails which normally serves as a signal for the first dog to leave the other alone. This distinction is important, therefore we do not use squeak boxes or other noise makers in our toys, so that the hunting instinct of the dog is not incited or reinforced unnecessarily.
Dogs can also have fun and be motivated to retrieval play without noisy toys. This is something we are certain of.
Olivi toy
The Olivi toy by our partner Lucky-Pet is a 100% natural chew and tug toy for dogs made from olive wood and a natural cotton rope, which has been manufactured according to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100. This natural toy offers long-lasting chewing fun, gently clean the teeth, boosts the immune system and also gives your dog a pleasantly smelling breath. The dumbbell is the perfect alternative to a stick or a ball and also makes a good retrieval toy.
What is natural rubber?
We love animals and the environment, therefore all our outdoor toys are made from natural rubber, dyed with natural colours, which poses no health-risk to your dog. Another advantage of natural rubber is that it is very sturdy and chew resistant. Most of our balls bounce and many are also buoyant and therefore suitable for water play such as our Aqua Fun series. Some toys may even be filled with treats for extra motivation. Our ostrich eggs provide a special fitness boost. Due to the oval shape, the egg bounces irregularly and improves the dog's coordination. If you want to throw the egg with a bit more momentum, there's also a version with an integrated rope.
Our Pure Nature range is also made of natural rubber, suitable for chewing, tugging and playing. The ropes here are made of 100% undyed cotton.
Dog toys made from natural rubber
Natural rubber is made from the milky sap of the rubber tree. The milky sap is released by cutting into the bark of the tree and then collecting in containers. Afterwards, the resulting mass, which contains mainly of water, rubber and resins, is dyed with natural colours and pressed into the desired shape.
Lovable plushies without small parts that can be swallowed
Just like young children, dogs often have a favourite plush toy, which quickly becomes their best friend. They play with the plush toy every day and cuddle with it by night. When buying a plush toy, make sure that it is a dog toy and not a regular plush toy for children. Most plush toys for children are not suitable for dogs, because they have buttons or eyes which a dog might bite off and swallow. Therefore, we do not use any small parts that a dog might swallow on any of our plush toys,
